It’s a rainy Wednesday night, and driving along Oxford St the many bright lights seem to blur in the drizzle, making it hard to distinguish one place from another. But Cafe Cubano is hard to miss. Sitting loud and proud on the corner of Oxford and – St, I always notice Cubano and meant to check it out for years but had never visited until now.

I love the decor as soon as I walk through the door, the shabby-chic look made moody by the single, low-hanging red light bulbs dotted throughout the space. My friend Rachel is wearing a little red dress that matches perfectly the color of the stool she is perched on.

Red Sangria, $28

I had previously thought of coming to Cubano when craving a hot chocolate, but tonight I am here for drinks with friends and Sangria is our tipple of choice. The jugs of red sangria go down an absolute treat and for about 8 wine glass’ worth, $28 is really not that bad a price to pay. I’ve tried quite a few homemade versions of this popular Spanish drink, and this one was definitely up there – distinctly fruity but not too sweet.

Adriano Cubano

Large Cappuccino

Tori, who is driving, orders a large cappaccino. I adore the big red mug. Tori is quite the Cappacino Connoisseur – she knows her coffee, and very much approves of that served at Cubano. The word ‘Cubano’ seems to result in good coffee from my experiences so far!

I think i’ll have to return for that hot chocolate.

Mm X
